  • Longevity Products: Has This Risk Hopped Across the Pond?

Today, the UK is the most vibrant market in the world for pension plan de-risking. Regulation, accounting transparency and risk awareness among pension schemes have created dramatic changes in their risk management and governance.  Many of the same catalysts for change are arriving in the U.S.  As U.S. pension plan sponsors face these changes, there is broad recognition their current risk position is unsustainable. Pension buy-in transactions have also just arrived and longevity insurance will follow. Demand will likely be modest until there is greater awareness.  Awareness is rising and U.S. longevity risk analysis tools and research are being developed.  Industry experts will discuss recent developments in the UK and how these may be applicable in a U.S. environment.

Moderator/Speaker: David Howell, Chief Executive Officer, Pacific Life Re
Speaker: Amy Kessler, Head of Longevity Reinsurance, Prudential Retirement

The promise of new underwriting tools such as predictive analytics, tele-underwriting, genetic testing and drug databases, have the promise to allow great strides in risk selection.  At the same time, these tools have limits in both what they can do now and what they will legally be allowed to do in the future. Attendees at this session will hear industry experts discuss the underwriting regulatory topics of today and tomorrow.
